For real estate investors, the economy today can be a great place to pick up some older homes extremely cheap. But, you don’t always get something ready to sell or rent out – and those fixer uppers can be great deals if you have the time to put into fixing them. For those that pick up homes that have a lot of junk in them, you need to figure out how to remove trash and debris safely and quickly. Here are some great ideas to help you out:
#1: Before you start, you want to see how much you need to take out. Take a walk through the yard and the house and make notes on what is there and approximately how many loads you think you will have. This way, you can determine how to remove trash and debris better.
#2: Next, you want to determine how you are going to haul this trash off. For a massive job, you might consider renting a dumpster or hiring someone that does trash removal to take loads to the dump for you.
#3: Go through the house and salvage any pieces of wood or other items that you can use when you are remodeling the house after you remove the trash. Set all of these items aside and make sure that everyone knows these are not to be thrown out.
#4: Make sure that you remove and dispose of anything hazardous that might be in the house in the proper manner – such as lead paint or asbestos siding.
#5: Also, you want to make sure that anything you can recycle is recycled where you can. Metal, pipe, and glass are great examples of things that you can recycle at local facilities – and can make you a bit of money back at times.
#6: Try to get everything placed in one area, either the front or back yard, or another room in the house so that you can then take one day and remove trash from only one area. This will cut back on your time.
#7: Make sure that everyone has the proper safety equipment before you start the removal process so that you can cut down on any problems you might have. You should make sure that everyone has eye protection from dust and debris, heavy gloves, and long pants as well as boots or heavy shoes.
#8: You want to have everyone work together on the day that you designate to remove trash from the home so that you can maximize your time and get everything done and out of the way.
#9: Once you have all of the larger trash removed from the home, make sure that you take the time to remove all of the smaller bags of debris as well.
#10: Make sure that you keep in mind that you will have more trash to remove after you have remodeled the home, so if you did rent a dumpster, you might want to keep it for the duration of your remodel.
Picking up older homes is a great deal right now, and those that need repairs are even better deals for those that have the time and energy to do them. But, you want to make sure that you are keeping tabs on removing the trash that you pile up. Remove trash quickly so that it doesn’t pile up too far and get in the way.
