It’s no news to most that the global economy is in a bad state. No industries have felt the recession quite as much as the construction sector. The effects have been detrimental to many 3D Architectural Visualization Companies as supply overtook the demand for creative 3D imagery of propsed building projects. At this stage we need to limit the damage caused to our industry by competing on anything other than price alone.
Architectural 3D visuals are used throughout the construction process from the early conceptual design stages, through the design development stages, into planning and ending with marketing.
If no new building projects commence the effects filter down throughout the entire industry. Ultimatley the industry will fall to pieces and business owners and staff alike will have to consider new careers. Not good!
So, at grass roots level, where does this leave us as visualising creatives. Sadly, it leaves us fighting over scraps and unfortunately this leads to unsustainable price cuts within the industry. In a poor economic climate this is the reality of business in many industry.
I’d suggest instead of reducing your fees in a bid to secure more work try to diversify into other markets such as manufacturing or the games industry. There are opportunities out there and we really do not have to work for bottom rate prices. Get creative, think outside the box and you will succeed.
All we have to do is look at our industry over the last few years to see the stagnation of progress. No remarkable breakthroughs have been made and it would seem that all CGI companies are content with simply staying in business for the time being rather than pushing the creative boundaries. As with any industry, when the going rate drops it is extremely difficult for that industry to recover. So diversify and / or compete on quality, reliability and professionalism. Let’s work together to keep our great industry alive!
