A Connection between Austin, TX & Madison, WI

An impressive number of similarities exist between Austin, TX and Madison, WI, despite the large number of miles that separate them. Both cities hold the honor of being the capital of their state. Both cities are centers of education, have a firm standing in the arts, and have economies firmly rooted in tech. When offering so much to their residents, it’s no surprise that Austin & Madison are amidst the two most desirable cities in the nation to live in.

Education

Listed by Forbes magazine in the #2 position of the best education cities nationwide, Madison has much to offer to its occupants in terms of educational advancement. Actually, 50,000 of its residents attend one of the many different colleges and technical institutes the city offers, among these being Edgewood College, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Madison Media Institute and Madison Area Technical College.

Education is also a premium in Austin. Researchers at the Central Connecticut State University have ranked it as the twenty-third most literate city nationally. In addition, the city has been ranked “America’s #1 College Town” by the Travel Channel. Institutions in Austin include The University of Texas, Concordia University, Austin Community College, & St. Edward’s University.

Austin, Texas and Madison, Wisconsin Economies

Madison’s economy, although once being inundated by government positions and those within the education field, has been becoming increasingly dependent on consumer services and technology – a familiar position for Austin, which has long been regarded as a hub for technology. Now, both cities are becoming increasingly involved in biotechnology – in fact, Austin is already home to about 85 different companies in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical fields, making it the twelfth most important biotech and life center in the United States

Arts and Culture in Austin and Madison

Madison and Austin are both landing places to an exhilarant arts and culture scene. In fact, Austin is the commonly known as the self-proclaimed Live Music Capital of the World, and is also host to the annual Austin Film Festival in addition to numerous other cultural events every year. Madison has been ranked by Money magazine as the top place nationwide to live in 1996, and is also host to a number of music festivals in addition to a number of art museums. Austin also grabbed the number 2 spot by Money Magazine in 2006 for that same list.

Austin & Madison, while having so much to offer to their residents, are both somehow manage to offer houses & condos that are fairly priced – which should serve as no surpise then that both cities continue to grow so quickly in terms of population as well as commercial opportunities!
