Being A Real Estate Agent

Everyone should be a Realtor at one time in their life. Why do I suggest this? You will never come across a more diverse, opinionated, greedy, selfish, backstabbing, wonderful, caring, group of people in one place. I do not care if it’s a small family-owned business, or one of the more established well known mega-monsters serving in your area.

In my time as a Realtor, I found this to be true each and every time. All Realtors are normally great people, but each has their own story to tell, and once you get into a lunch room or in your own workplace with them one on one, they’re happy share it. Once they do that, then it’s on to greater and better things. No one is safe from the cross-fire, as each person has someone in the business or perhaps in the same office they love to talk about. The talk can be both positive and negative.

Also, they, as a group, love to participate in social gatherings. Especially if someone else is buying! Any events, lunches, meetings, presentations, is good if there’s a drawing and free drinks and food involved. Realtors love free food.

Now I am not just saying these things out of spite. I was a Realtor for almost 10 years, and I was smacked in the middle of it. I too, loved the free food and drinks, and I did my share of talking about people, so I am not throwing stones. It’s the culture of the real estate business that simply brings out these characteristics in people. Does this make them filthy? Of course not! It is merely a piece of humanity that’s allowed to come out during usual conversation. And hey, everybody likes free food and drink. Don’t we?

Realtors are also very friendly, very helpful people. There are many causes that Realtors, as a whole, participate in. In addition, if someone they meet in their daily comings and goings is in need or knows of someone who is, the Realtors are very much willing to provide assistance in whatever way they can. Be it cash, time, or expertise, all of these things come out to showcase what Realtors are all about.

Realtors are, for the most part, very smart people also. Each state has their own licensing procedures, however I have to believe those in other areas are among the toughest. A lot of time and study goes into the taking of the licensing examination, let alone passing it. Once that has been accomplished, more classes should be taken in order to fulfill the continuing education needs put forth by the state. I took all that on after finishing my earlier career, and definitely at an older age than most. I found it very satisfying to be able to say I was a Realtor. I found it even more satisfying to be able to find clients that needed my assistance in finding their first, or next, home. There’s no greater feeling than knowing you helped to fulfill somebody’s dream.
