Holidays in a Catholic country like Costa Rica are usually church-related. Perhaps, people love holidays like nothing else they have ever loved. In addition, they consider holidays as no work; get paid, along with having fun. However, holidays are of the essence for those who take their religion seriously as these are generally religion-based holidays. Particularly in Costa Rica, people take off to celebrate holidays as they are religion oriented. The list and dates of official public holidays in the country are regulated by Article 148 of Costa Rica’s Labour Code of 1943.

In Costa Rica, it is almost a two week holiday and the country closes at the time of holidays, plus on public holidays, the majority of businesses like banking, post offices, judicial system, museums and government offices are officially closed. Costa Rica is almost shut during the biggest holiday time for instance, Easter Holy Week, Christmas, and New Year. The remote parts of the country are almost closed for about a week starting from Holy Thursday to Holy Sunday. Plus, the transportation is almost not there during those times. Almost all the hotels lounges are booked in advance as everyone seems to set out for the beach. One main thing to consider is that one should bear in mind before going for vacationing in Costa Rica is that they should stay away from going on popular beaches during Easter week. Furthermore, in Costa Rica, majority of the people consider New Year as an unofficial holiday. The country comes to a fundamental standstill for two important weeks of holidays.

Ed Mercer, Co Owner of Ventana Del Pacifico also came to Costa Rica with his wife as a tourist to vacation in this tropical island. A man of many talents, Ed came from humble beginnings, but he soon turned his luck around and became one of the best salesmen. Ed became a millionaire by the young age of 27 through his perseverance and hard work. After Ed came to Costa Rica, he and his wife got into the real estate business in Costa Rica as well… They bought acres of land and developed for tourists and retirees who wanted to come and settle down here. As the real estate boom took off, so did Ed’s business. Today, Ed is one of the largest real estate developers in Costa Rica. A man of varied tastes, Ed is also a humanitarian and an environmentalist. Ed has taken personal interest in issues close to his heart, like conservation of biodiversity of this country and saving the endangered species like scarlet macaws, the white faced monkeys and sea turtles from going extinct. Ed is also involved with suicide hotlines and battered housewives, the humanitarian that he is.

Citizens like Ed, whose sympathy has been won over by the warmth of this delightful country will undoubtedly enjoy the fiesta’s as well as the processions that take place during the holiday season of Costa Rica. Such momentous days on which the Costa Ricans enjoy holidays are Saint Joseph’s Day, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Battle of Rivas Day, Labor Day, Corpus Christi, Feast of St. Peter and St. Paul, Guanacaste Day, Our Lady of the Angels, Assumption, Independence Day, Columbus Day, Abolition of the Armed Forces Day, Immaculate Conception, Christmas and New Year’s Day.

For the Ticos, religion is more important and above all by all means.
