A study of real estate markets commissioned by Forbes, Inc. was recently released which named the top ten communities in the U.S. in terms of expected price appreciation of homes. With Colorado Springs listed at number six and Denver also making the cut at number eight, the state of Colorado fared quite well in these rankings. The number one spot was awarded to Raleigh, N.C., and following in second and third positions were two markets in Texas. One criterion used to come up with the winners was that a good number of jobs in the areas were in fast growth industries.

In fact the state of Colorado has been named in several other studies which attempted to measure business friendliness and potential home value appreciation.

A second study done by Forbes rated states by how much support they give to business. This study addressed such things as regulatory climate, growth prospects, current economic climate, labor supply, quality of life, and overall costs. The scores given to Colorado were thirty three in business costs, first in labor supply, sixth in growth prospects, ninth in quality of life, and 15th for regulatory environment.

Each year a group called the Beacon Hill Institute publishes what they call the State Competitiveness Report. In all 43 different categories and measured, and Colorado came out number two in this survey. Three of the highest category ratings for Colorado were number 3 in technology, number 4 in business incubator, and number 5 in infrastructure.

So if the real estate market in Colorado can work through its many problems, like the foreclosure issue and that of job confidence, for example, it appears that business in general and real estate in particular has the potential to do well there in the not too distant future.
