Edward R. Mercer the “Co Owner of Ventana Del Pacifico”, a writer, environmentalist as well as an entrepreneur came to Costa Rica with his wife in 1988 for Iron Man competition. Together, Ed and his wife invested in real estate and made the beautiful country their home. A self made millionaire, Ed has helped thirty-five other persons turn millionaires like him. Ed created a one stop shop organization, an eco friendly company, where buying and selling of the real estate properties was made uncomplicated for the buyers as well as an unforgettable experience for them. Fondly known as Mr. Costa Rica, a chunk of every company sale by the staff of Ed Mercer goes towards improving infrastructure and reforestation efforts in Costa Rica.
A satisfied buyer, Terry (from Toronto) reminisces of the time he bought property (with ocean view adjacent to the rainforest) from Ed’s company. He was greeted warmly by Ed’s manager at the spacious guest house and responded to all the queries while on the way to the tour of the property. Since Terry had reservations, he was shown three other properties immediately. When Terry chose one, he was floored to know that the price was $20,000 less as stressed by the manager. Terry was bowled over by the work ethics of Sylvaine and Ed who were bogged down by making the buyers happy about their choice rather than simply making profits. Terry thanked Ed for preserving the rainforests and working in the most ecological friendly way as a developer. Terry expressed that he felt safe in the hands of Ed Mercer (who he believes ensures value for every single investment) and thus hopes to retire peacefully in Costa Rica.
Ed’s caring extends beyond that of the visitors and investors to the area. An inductee into the prestigious Environmental Hall of Fame (for saving the endangered species of scarlet macaws, white faced monkeys and sea turtles in Costa Rica), Ed shares the stage with environmentalists, ecological minds, entrepreneurs and inventors of world fame. Ed strongly feels that sharing the platform with Tony Robbins, Donald Trump and Zig Ziglar has made his life more enriched by the exchange of creative ideas mutually. Having spoken in 86 countries around the world, the favorite topics of Ed’s public discourses are: Wealth Enhancement, Mentoring Millionaires, Personal Growth and Development, Costa Rica and Real Estate Investment. At the public speaking sessions, Ed humbly considers himself still a student still learning the nuances of doing business. Ed is committed to channeling his financial resources for the betterment of his community.
Just as Ed came to Costa Rica as a traveler, if you are envisaging a happy travel, it is a must to pack light for genuine comfort throughout the trip. Things like soap, shampoo or a mosquito repellent may be purchased in Costa Rica itself. It is ideal to own a small backpack that shall contain the highly essential items only. One may fill this backpack with drip dry garments which may easily dry overnight. Extra clothing will simply increase the weight unnecessarily. Since Costa Rica has good bus transportation with good connectivity, traveling by a local bus shall cut the costs and give a sense of exploring the country and mingling with the locals. The Fantasy bus offers air conditioned access as well. To get around San Jose, one may take taxis as well. If the tourists are traveling in a group, splitting the costs incurred is also a good option. There are the two local airlines named Sansa and Travel air that offer transport services to all the crucial tourist destinations spread throughout the country. If one is not careful, dining in Costa Rica may prove to be quite expensive.
Many small restaurants are a good option as they cater to the tourists on a daily basis offering reasonable price for the wholesome food. The locals prefer family run shops that offer inexpensive items. These generally include meat, vegetables, rice and beans, cabbage salad and sometimes tortillas; hence it is good to follow the dining options of the locals. The spotted rooster or Gallo pinto (tasty lunch time filler) is the national dish made from fried rice and black beans and often includes fried eggs as well. The tourists can stock up on water, juice, bread or cheese from the supermarkets. It is good to book your hotel in off season when the rates are much lower.
