In recent years, innotative manufacturers have developed “hybrid coating systems” that are perhaps the most advanced coatings available for flooring surfaces. Features not ordinarily found in a single resin system are available for tailoring to specific applications by combining the features from two or more resins coatings. The result is that the final product exceeds the individual performance of any stand alone resin used in the application.

There are many considerations that go into selection of a hybrid system but always will depend upon the specific requirements of a particular floor surface.

Hybrid systems are easy to understand. The most important thing to know is that they are a new technology of combining urethance cements and other standard resin systems. The result is an improved flooring surface for costs roughly equal to standard resins.

Manufacturers of hybrid systems have vast knowledge and experience with years of floor coating experience behind them. Talk to them about recommendations for your consideration.

Many concrete floors contain moisture that needs a remedy. Fortunately, polyurea in combination with epoxy coatings can be used over cementitious urethane that provides excellent moisture penetration resistance through the concrete slab.

Selecting a contractor to perform the floor coating work is an important task. Failure begins or ends with this critical decision. Be sure to investigate reputation, and the process of installation step by step with each contractor you interview. The right questions will help you make your decision.

Tecnologically, contractors experienced in specialy floor coating systems are best suited to this type of work.

Successful contractors are often trained professionals who have extensive field experience in applying hybrid coating systems. They are reliable, have good customer service and communicate effectively.

A problem floor installation can be very costly to your business. Unforseen difficulties, including loss of production and associated revenues is all traceable back to selecting the wrong contractor. Always protect your business interests by imagining the very worst thing that can happen. Then reflect if you have made the best choice based on the installers experience and knowledge.

Innovation in coating systems comes from manufacturers. Generally they work very closely with contractors during the product development stage. Always ask for the latest technology when speaking to the manufacturer. A more effective solution may be yours for the asking.

What is not widely known is that new systems are being installed every day, thanks to the new hybrid technology.Cement urethane semi- gloss finishes are now being producced that were unknown as recently as early 2010.

There is also a very competitive cement urethane entrant into the floor coating market. A self priming 1/8″ coating can be used by itself or as a broadcast medium to achieve a beautiful decorative look through incorporation of decorative quartz or flakes.

Hybrid technology allows you to “mix it up” by selecting the very best properties of cement urethanes, epoxy and poly aspartics to achieve for your application.

Asking questions is always important. Don’t stop asking them until you hear that you can achieve product protection with the new hybrid systems while reducing costs. Both are available in the same hybrid systems.

No longer the province of cement urethanes and epoxy resins, hybrid resin systems have recently incorporated methyl methacrylates into the hybrid product offerings.

While setting time is very fast there are drawbacks, however. If accomodations can be made for the high odor of the system, the resulting systems are impressive. Principally confined to schools, shopping malls and grocery stores, the technology is being used in other special situations.

Although considered a special application resin system, methyl methacrylate resins offer very special properties that excell in the proper environment. While there is a high odor associated with these systems during application, they require very little maintenance. They resist micro grooving and maintain a luster for as much as 10 years after installation. The usual applications are super markets, pedestrial walkways and schools, wherever high density pedestrian traffic is encountered. A hybrid system may be useful in your environment so explor the features and applications as they apply to you.
