Fort Leonard Wood neighborhoods are a mix of military and civilians coming together to live in a great small town community. There are approximately 15,000 residents that call this Mid-Missouri town home. Many of them are military, but several are not. The third largest communications and phone provider networks calls this town home as does a major greeting card company. There is also a major pet supply chain store that employees many of the residents. This busy little town is about 220 miles away from Kansas City and a two hour drive away from St. Louis.
For those families that like the great outdoors, there are many different RV and camping spaces in the community and outlying areas. This community also can boast it has the Mark Twain National Forrest in its backyard which is an outdoorsmen’s paradise nearly year-round. A couple of different types of social gathering places for both young and old and several community theaters and a theatrical playhouse are located within the city limits for those who want to perform or those who enjoy a night of live entertainment.
This community provides numerous parks for picnics, walking; hiking, biking and watching children play on the playground equipment. Additionally, the city maintains a swimming pool for everyone to enjoy Memorial Day through the hot summer until Labor Day in September. There are a number of schools for K-12, several with teachers who have received an excellence award in higher education from the state.
If a family or individual is looking to move to this small Missouri community, they have plenty of homes to choose from. There are larger homes and smaller, starter homes in every price range to pick from. There are the smaller, one and two bedroom homes that are great for military personnel and their spouse or one child. These homes can be found right in town in addition to St. Roberts, Plato and Dixon. They are usually in the $80,000 price range and higher.
In the same area, there are the larger homes for those military families that are more established or families with two incomes from one of the other employment providers to the community. These are typically 3-4 bedroom homes with a couple acres of land. Some of them are split-level floor plans while others are all on one floor. These homes range in the $150,000 and up amounts.
Because the town is located in Mid-Missouri, the weather patterns are erratic and unpredictable at times. There is always four seasons, however, many of them can occur all in one day. Sometimes a person will wake up to a blizzard of snow, the sun will come out if full humidity and melt it away under 64 degrees and then keep climbing to a balmy 75 plus by the evening. Many people enjoy the erratic weather because it keeps them guessing and there is never a dull weather moment.
The capital of Missouri is Jefferson City and it is only about 30 miles from this military town. Some people in the community will commute to a government job in the state capital and other will find employment through other types of employers in the capital. Within this town, there is a nice size airport that both military and civilians fly out of. Some of them commute to St. Louis or Kansas City, the largest cities in the state.
Fort Leonard Wood neighborhoods are more than an Army community; they have families and individuals of all types and styles living among them. Each year, the community grows with more people discovering the great Mid-Missouri town and its great houses. There are never any strangers or new people in the community, everyone is an immediate friend.
