Home Staging Your Kitchen For Show Day

Home Staging is the term used to describe the preparation of a home for sale, usually done before a show day to ensure that your home looks its best. You can hire someone to come in and help, but a lot of it is common sense. Paint the kitchen and ceiling before show day. The ceiling is probably yellowed from cooking.

Begin by being a critic. The biggest factor is cleanliness. Scrub from top to bottom.

Cupboards must be clean inside too, and contents should be packed neatly – prospective buyers will open them to see how much storage space there is.

Clean the window treatments – curtains or blinds – as they tend to get quite dirty from cooking vapors. Make sure the windowsill is uncluttered. You may even like the idea of a potted plant in the kitchen.

Remove and clean the light fittings – you’ll be surprised at how many bugs gather inside them!

Take absolutely everything off of the counters. Put them back up one-by-one, and only replace the essential items. If the cookbooks look nice, put them on display, but do not fill the counters with stuff – it only makes the kitchen look smaller. Ideally, all other appliances should be packed away.

Make sure all dishes are put away on show day. Hang up fresh dish towels and remove cleaning supplies. Wipe all the counters and clean the floor. Do not allow any clothes to be on the washline either. Clean sinks and faucets, and make sure the disposal is working. If you have a dustbin, make sure it is emptied.

If you have space, fresh flowers and fruit look nice. Use these items to draw attention to a particular area, like a breakfast nook or island.

There is nothing quite as welcoming in a home as a warm, comforting aroma. Making a batch of cookies will welcome guests and make the house smell good. You may also try baking several cinnamon sticks in the oven.
