If a community wants to experience progress, they desire change as well. But the truth about this matter is that changes are often times more complicated than they seem, especially if you are talking about major economic change for a town that has established its own culture. Even though people know for a fact that changes are inevitable, leaders of the society should still be careful in carrying out these amends to ensure the success of the community.

The town of Hoquiam in Washington will undergo such change. Since the beginning of time, they have been associated with the logging industry. Hoquiam’s heritage as a logging establishment is so rich that they even celebrate logging festivals throughout the year. Examples of these events are Loggers Play day and the loggers fall parade. However, right now, the leadership of Hoquiam is making plans in developing its waterfront.

Hoquiam’s waterfront holds vast opportunities. They have envisioned the area to become one of the best locations for business and leisure. High expectations are being given to the development project and they continue to have elevated hopes that they will be able to come up with a business center that can measure up to the standards of great cities.

This decision is influenced by cities that ventured to waterfront development and have gained a lot of progress. The city of Baltimore and San Antonio are examples of these cities that took a chance and won. Because of their success, an air of inspiration is birthed out to the town of Hoquiam which now aims to do the same feat.

The plan for the waterfront’s development is very realistic but there is also an obstacle to its completion. The Metropolitan of Aberdeen is a big neighboring town that has been Hoquiam’s rival for many years. It is common that the government will opt to give support to bigger municipalities. Therefore, there is a threat that Hoquiam’s support will be awarded to its neighbor, Aberdeen.

The development of the Hoquiam waterfront will lead to major construction and beautification projects. Buildings for business establishments will be erected along the stretch of downtown Hoquiam. The structures for commerce will be complimented by the by the innate beauty of the town which proves that even small towns like Hoquiam can be a center for trade and leisure.

No matter how great the plans are for the Hoquiam waterfront, the town residents should never neglect their rich culture. They should also exert effort to preserve the town’s heritage. The best thing that they could do is to find methods of enhancing what they already have along with their plans for change.

This change in Hoquiam is an example that other communities should learn from. Other small municipalities should follow their lead and convey the message that no one should fear change. Life is a series of changes and for as long as we live, the cycle of change will never cease. And like the people of Hoquiam, let’s make the most out of the opportunities that these changes bring to us.
