Comprised of Mallorca, Menorca, and Cabreras to the north and Formentera and Ibiza to the southwest, the Balearics have captured the hearts of visitors who have returned to make the islands their homes.
Ibiza is the third largest of the islands, sometimes called the White Island because of the dazzling white architecture that is one of its hallmarks. Once the haunt of the young and exuberant during the 1960s, Ibiza still has a vibrant social scene. Away from the night clubs and bright lights, however, the island enchants its residents with more sedate spots. Ibiza’s interior has a more traditional Mediterranean cultural tradition.
As part of the Balearic chain, Ibiza offers a delightful climate. The annual mean temperature is about 18 degrees Celsius, or 64 degrees Fahrenheit. Summer days are normally about 25 C, or the upper 70s F. In winter, this lovely spot enjoys average temperatures of about 10 degrees C, or about 50 degrees F. In short, it is blessed with an almost perfect Mediterranean environment.
Visitors never want to leave once they’ve visited the Balearics, Ibiza in particular. You may be one of them, longing to return and never to depart. You can find your own home here, a luxurious villa with views of nearby islands or sun-soaked historic towns. Such a home as this can have a pool, central heating, air conditioning throughout, a terrace and barbecue area for those summer nights.
If your tastes are more modest and yet you want a comfortable and welcoming nest, there are often duplexes on the market. Two bedrooms, a bath, a pool, and a location just far enough away from the crowds yet close enough to the cultural life may be just right.
Ibiza offers an abundance of apartments for sale as well. If your outlook is more urban, a stylish and comfortable personal space in which to relax is available. Many feature two or more bedrooms, a nearby pool, or even direct access to the beach.
If you don’t speak the local Catalan dialect or even Spanish, it is good to know that English is spoken everywhere because of the large numbers of British who make Ibiza their home. In fact, most people are conversant in more than one language, so it is easy to go about your daily life with a minimum of trouble. Ibiza has been a cultural crossroads for much of its history and still welcomes the casual visitor or the permanent resident equally. While the local cuisine is very much Mediterranean, with an emphasis on the harvest of the sea, familiar foods are available for a touch of home.
Where is the best place to live in Ibiza? The place that feels right to you. The main city on Ibiza is Ibiza City; a wonderful place with a picturesque old harbour area designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. If you love steeping in history-rich surroundings, this could be the place for you. Other beautiful towns on Ibiza such as Cala Vadella, Port des Torrent, and San Antonio offer the perfect home for the right person.
