Security padlocks can be used either indoors or outdoors. Padlocks used for the outdoors are supposed to have more security features than those used for indoor rooms. Due to the changing weather outdoors, padlocks used outdoors should also have features that will ensure they don t corrode. Hardened steel is the material that is used to make strong and durable outdoor padlocks. Hardened steel is a type of steel that is rich in carbon. High and middle carbon steel is normally converted to hardened steel through two processes. These processes are: quenching and tampering. When steel is passed through these processes it is hardened and becomes more durable and strong than ordinary steel. The durability of a padlock should not only be evident in the exterior. The interior parts of a padlock should be durable also.

Anti-corrosive features

Metals are made to be anti-corrosive through the process of plaiting or coating. A metal can be plaited using either zinc or cadmium. Top padlock brands are normally made using high grade steel. The appropriate metals used for plaiting high grade steel are zinc and cadmium.

When padlocks are plaited, they will be resistant to water. Rain water causes padlocks to rust. Rust discolors a padlock so that it will have an undesirable look. Rust also interferes with the internal functioning of the padlock. Anti-corrosive padlocks will however not be affected by rust.

A padlocks efficiency is dependent on the mechanisms of the padlock and the design of the padlock. Top brands of padlocks that are classified either as grade 5 or 6 have superior mechanisms which make them ideal for use in the protection of valuable property. Low grade padlocks can be either grade 1 or 2, they tend to be less effective in securing property.

Padlocks with highly effective mechanisms and designs are those which have a higher grade. The grading system for padlocks starts from grade 1 and ends at grade 6. Grade 4 to grade 6 padlocks offer maximum security. Padlocks with high grades usually have special features that prevent the manipulation of the padlock. These features include: lock mechanisms that are pin less and guarded key ways.

When looking for security padlocks for outdoor use, padlocks made with anti-corrosion material that is additionally durable and strong should be chosen. The padlocks chosen should also have highly effective internal mechanisms. When a durable padlock with the right mechanisms is used in protecting property, the property owner can have peace of mind that his/her property is safe.
