When kids are growing up, they often dream about heading off to the big city to strike it rich or make it big. Living in the city has been a long-held dream of many, but after awhile, some people find it is not for them. Others never never feel this burn and they prefer blue sky and wide open spaces. Despite the lack of space and fresh air, city living does have its conveniences. This is what you will need to plan for if you decide to move away from the most populated of areas. First, think about areas you can move that are near smaller cities. If you live near Manhattan, you are going to have to travel quite a ways to find a rural area. However, if you live near a smaller city, you may be able to reach downtown within an hour’s drive of a very rural home. Consider looking for Boise, Omaha, or Cleveland homes for the convenience of rural living near a city. Next, understand you may have a long commute if you live away from the city. Populations are highest where there are the most jobs, so if you choose to live in a rural area, there will be a commute to the office. An option to cut out that long commute is to work from home. There are jobs you can do everywhere, so having to travel to reach the city is meaningless when it comes to making a living. This is challenging and comes with risks, but may improve the quality of your life.

In order to save on gas and time, make a list of everything that needs to be done in town and plan to get it all done in one day. Remember you will have to travel a long way if you forget anything. Be sure to prepare before heading into town.
Finally, understand your children may not love living in a rural environment. When you are young, the city offers a lot to do. Your kids may be bored by rural living. While the advantages may include a better school system, more privacy, and a safer environment kids may not see it this way and it may take them years to appreciate these types of advantages.
