Whether you are moving just across town or out of the area, your moving day will go a lot smoother if you plan ahead to get prepared for your big day. Commence today verses later on – The longer you have lived within your present residence, the more stuff you’ve stored away in closets, underneath beds or in the garage. You will definitely find that you have more to move than you thought, so start early to provide yourself time for the unforeseen.

Make lists for every room in your old and new home – There are so many decisions to make whenever you move. This straightforward idea will help you make more of those in advance, supplying you with a game plan for moving day. It will also get what’s inside your head out in the open so others could help you out without asking about each detail on moving day.

Give your family and friends advance notice so they can be of assistance – Often we tend to feel bad bothering people for help as we don’t want to be a nuisance to them. The truth is people love to help you once they can plan ahead.

Give yourself enough time – On average it takes most people about a month to pack. One study reported that it takes 4-5 hours to pack an average dorm room, so that should give you an idea of what’s involved.

Calendar your plans- Put a calendar on the fridge to keep you and your whole family working together. Put specific moving goals on it like “Monday – back up bonus room.” If you’re moving with family members, agree with them exactly while tasks they will be doing and the date they will be finished.

Figure out a means to keep yourself accountable – You might have a friend that you chat with at least regularly or a loved one that you can ask to look at your moving calendar weekly. Just knowing that somebody might be asking can be a good motivator for some people. If that isn’t you, develop a way to hold yourself on track for your move.
