Preparing your home for sale need not require extensive work nor big expenses on your part. Nevertheless, adequate and effective measures are necessary in order get the optimal price for your property.

Begin your preparations by emotionally letting go of the house, conditioning yourself that it is no longer yours. This way, it will be easy for you to spruce it up so that buyers can readily imagine themselves living in it when they come over to look.

A general cleanup of the place is a must. Remove all clutter and personal items out of the way and leave a sense of order and organization to the interior. This is also a perfect time to pack up before you move out eventually.

Minor repairs might have to be completed but only on a reasonable level so you do not have to spend much on making major improvements. Prioritize on maintenance items that potential buyers will easily notice like busted light bulbs, leaking faucets, broken glass or tiles, and worn-out rugs and carpets.

Once this has been done, you need to try and make the place like a blank canvas others can paint their dreams on, which may require professional help. Every room will need to be made over so it looks the best it can.

You can start with painting the walls a neutral color to make it easier for buyers to visualize their stuff in the house, and also to make the rooms look bright and more spacious. Don’t forget to rearrange furniture, organize bedroom closets and kitchen cabinets, wax the floors, and hang fresh towels.

Don’t forget about the outside of your place as well, as this is the first part that any potential buyer will see. Clean up the garden, clear the gutter, and maybe even give the front of the house a blast with a water blaster.

Finally, also include gathering documents related to your home in your preparations. Have the title documents, property tax payment receipts, homeowner insurance policy, and other documents prepared just in case.
