You either love the concept of the condominium, or totally abhor it. For us, the pros outweigh the cons. Here’s why we believe so.

Condominiums provide a unique living opportunity in the United States, one that many people have jumped on in this real estate market. Although not for everyone, condominium ownership does have some distinct advantages over stand alone homes.

Condominiums are cheaper than stand alone homes. The main reason why this is such a cheap buying option is due to the fact that condominiums do not have yards, while other types of houses do. For a first-time home buyer, a condominium is a great option, as this is often approved without much hassle, and is a home that they can be happy with even if not approved on a mortgage for a regular home.

Condos are also advantageous for the baby boom generation, and a lot of you may be reading this. Once kids are out of the home, you’ll find the space in your home is no longer necessary. If you’re in this situation, you can sell your old home, retire early, and move down to a condominium. This is a more prominent occurrence than it was before due to the inevitable aging of the baby boomer generation.

If you’re a frequent traveler, condominiums may also be a good consideration for you. It can be quite worrying for a frequent traveler to leave his or her home unattended for a long period of time. Your home would then become an inviting target for often amateurish criminals, who love vandalizing and breaking into empty houses when there’s no one around. Now if you’re living in a condominium, these crooks wouldn’t be able to tell if you’re away or not. This makes condominiums very popular with pilots and certain sales people.

A detached home requires a lot of maintenance to keep it in good shape. With condominiums, you have less to do as the homeowners’ association takes care of everything related to the upkeep. As a result, condominiums excel in long term maintenance due to the regular attention they receive.

The standard, or detached home is still a better option for most, but condominiums hold a certain appeal for certain types of people. You need to make sure you are owning a condo for the right reasons before even thinking of buying one.
