Are San Francisco toursim numbers increasing and are people traveling again, or are they continuing to stay at home or close to home as a result of the economy and the need to save money? You might assume the latter, since the perception that people don’t have much in the way of a disposable income is the common lament, and if this is what you are thinking you will surely be surprised to find out otherwise.

The truth is domestic leisure traveling, according to the experts, is expected to increase this year by about 2 percent, and travel spending is expected to rise by up to 5 percent. Consumer confidence is riding and so too is disposal income for many.

It is certainly within reason, then, to expect the city of San Francisco to benefit from this uptake in travel. Considering the variety of options in the city, it could certainly see better tourism numbers in the near future.

Consider Fisherman’s Wharf one of the primary attractions with its street performers, fantastic seafood, historical items and museums. Boats that tour the bay or embark for whale watching or ferry tourists to Alcatraz are located nearby as well.

There is the Muir Woods, across the bay in Marin County. This is a spectacular walk through nature nicely maintained. Gently sloped walking paths as well as steeper winding paths through the forest promise a glimpse of nature that can be enjoyed by both the young and the old.

Of course there is the Golden Gate Bridge. A National monument in its own right, this bridge is likely the most photographed one in the country, and traveling across it, either by car, bike, or foot, is one of those things you can say you have done.

So as leisure travel increases, the fortunes of those in San Francisco that rely on tourism should benefit nicely.
